In terms of the spectacle, downhill mtb and track racing are best in my view. But I'll be watching the TdF this weekend - it's not like it comes to Britain very often and I'd like to cheer them on, even if it is all over in 20 seconds.

I watched the race in Ilkley last night, I like the race atmosphere (not available on TV) and although my technical knowledge is zippo, I really enjoy watching live racing. Tbh if any football or road cycling is available, live or on TV, I'll watch it.

I think I'm warming to it more. I've always liked motorsport, not particularly F1 but the race leagues that aren't swimming in money and so have closer and more entertaining racing. It's a shame that the promotion of the Tour coming here won't really mean anything by the time it's gone, everyone will just go back to forgetting about cycling.

The two times I've seen live international tennis I've really enjoyed it - once at Eastbourne and once at Queen's. But even though I quite enjoy the odd high-level tennis match televised from Wimbledon, you can guarantee that if they are playing then it's nice weather where I am and I'm not skulking indoors when it's sunny out!

I've been to 3 top-level football matches in my life, which I enjoyed but never went back to. Mr G watches the footie at home while I sit companionably beside him on CycleChat.

No interest whatsoever. I used to be an avid snooker and motor-racing fan but have even lost interest in that. Watching someone else doing something is about as interesting as watching paint dry to me.

I don't even try to get faster on my own bike any more. I've take more enjoyment this year from pootling around minor roads for 30 or 40 miles admiring the countryside on a sit up and beg pre-war roadster than I have from going hell for leather on any of my lightweights. What's the rush?
Cricket is the one to watch if you want to see paint dry. I cant think of another sport so boring to watch.

I have always liked bike racing, even from my younger days when Eddy Merckx was just getting going as a pro. I try to include a day ride out to watch the peloton go past. I was quite sporty as a kid/teenager/adult and still am to a lesser extent. I can't quite get the idea of watching cricket though, unless you need a good sleep.

Who considers their selves to be a cyclist that is? I once mowed the lawn of my old gaff while the French race was on, nothing unusual about that you may think, but apparently the helicopter covering the race for TV showed me doing it without so much as a glance over my shoulder as the race went past. I had no interest in watching a load of sweaty lycra-wearing blokes I didn't know riding bikes, so I used the fact that the roads were closed as a incentive to get some important maintenance done.

Goes to find the pitch fork !!! TV evidence too !!!!

I'm not intending to go along and watch, years ago we ended up accidentally on the route for something like the Tour of Britain and it was basically nothing, nothing, whoosh, nothing, traffic jams as the road opened again.

We watch some sport on TV, and will watch the tour highlights avidly (aside from that it's motorbike racing, ice hockey and I'll watch football if I'm on the crosstrainer as it's easy to exercise to).

I did go to the city tour thing at Canary Wharf last year and we both went again this year, and then the Nocturne and I agree, for atmosphere these are fun events to see and the speed the pro's attain is pretty special, along with the precision they ride, I couldn't imagine having the nerve to ride in a peloton and hearing the 'ting' of metal hitting the railings as one of a train of bikes whooshed past round the inside of the corner will live with me for ever.

I've been lucky enough to see a finish and 3 starts of the TdF. And I've watched the Paris-Nice go past.

My pick is definitely the departs. You can watch the team buses arrive, riders disembark and warm up , bikes being prep'ed etc. It's the time for photographs and autographs, if that's your thing. All very casual and relaxed.

Finishes, on the other hand, tend to be rushed affairs. Riders understandably want to off to eat, massage, shower etc.

Watching them pass is a bit ho-hum, though the buzz on the mountain stages is probably worth the experience.

I'll watch on tele if the weather's crap. I'd prefer to be outside than watching tv. I'll look at results though, and maybe watch the evening's highlights package.

I'll be watching most of it on telly but won't be upset if I miss some of it. That said now I've been stuck in the house for 7 months and likely to be for at least another 5 or 6 the TdF is better than most daytime telly ( I've become somewhat of an expert)
Been thinking about buying a trike though, just I'm a bit skint for now

I like other on here watch the TdF mainly for the scenery, and to see those continentals chasing the riders, doing their utmost to make fools of themselves! Will this happen over here i wonder?
