Ah, that'll be the Met then?

After bearing witness to an accident between a cyclist and a bus I was told by a PC from the Walworth Rd. that, 'all cyclists are idiots' for 'trying' to ride in London traffic.

I commended him for his compassion considering the circumstances and said how much comfort the injured cyclist's family might take from such well chosen words from a trusted public servant.
He blushed then went and hid in his car.

Excellent work. I salute you.

Oh incidentally, said WPC also held the traffic up for ages with her car while lecturing me. When I asked her if she would like to pull onto the side so we could continue our conversation without stopping the traffic she told me "no, that's not reasonable". Absolute nutter.

I'd riding along a main road in a village, with turning off to the left ahead. Who has priority, me, turning left into it, or the oncoming car turning right into the same turning? (with no other traffic behind me to hold them up)

I assumed me, but the driver seemed to have other idea, since he turned in right alongside me, with about a foot to spare beside me. I should have stuck a foot out and run my spd cleat down his door perhaps... Unless he was right...

The oncoming vehicle should wait for you and any vehicles following you (turning or otherwise).

Just wondering, did you signal your left turn? This is a good example of when not to signal a turn because it can encourage some idiots to cut in front of you.

Thanks all, I thought so....

I think I did signal, but I also think (it seems like days ago now, it was only lunchtime today!) I was already turning when he turned in. I was going fairly slowly, having stopped not far before the turn to check my map, and also because I have a stiff back and accelerating takes time and anyway I don't corner fast at the best of times. I possibly turned quite wide too (again, I don't tend to turn tightly) maybe he assumed I'd be staying in the gutter round the radius of the turn.

Anyway, I was right. And I avoided actually being hit, and I gave the guy a stern look. So that's him told.

To signal is to fail, gives others the chance to out-manoeuvre you. Keep them guessing, makes them wait. As a rule I follow this principle in a car as well.
