A real long shot....

Around 1995-1997, I used to see a cyclist on the north circular road, heading west bound between staples corner and Heathrow airport. He had a road bike with a 2 metre vertical pole attached to the bike. On top of the pole was a flashing yellow light.

Does anyone know him?

It always fascinated me that someone would commute such a distance and on a high speed road such as the NCR during peak hours and in any weather. I cycled to Heathrow a few times on the NCR and hated it.

In a similar vein, chapeau to the guy commuting away from Black Prince on the A2 last night. I don't know if it was just a poor choice, but you wouldn't catch me on a bicycle on that road twice.

I used to see someone on the North Circ perhaps 10 years ago when I scootered, morning rush hour between Chingford and Tottenham normally heading West, tatty kit, tatty road bike, it looked insane

and unlawful, sure there's a no cycle (and horse and carriage) sign on the slip roads

.. pre M25, we used to race on the A2. A bit further out from, Dartford Heath out to Bean and also from Pepperhill to the Inn on the Lake. Great 10 courses, some of my fastest times on there, but times have changed.

Yeah, one of my old mans 'reasons not to ride a motorbike any more' was his mate who lost it on the A2 and slid 200yds (it was along time ago you see) in to a hedge. You'd hit 20 cars before you got that far nowadays...

I remember seeing TT's on the Thanet Way back in the day when it was three lanes one carriageway (not sure if they do that any more now it's dual carriageway) and I sometimes see them by Brands Hatch, but I'm guessing that's not seen as a nice route with the hills.

Saw one by Brands Hatch a couple of weekends ago. I've also seen one using the A21 a bit further in (around Green Street Green) recently.

Wide roads but very busy

More to the point, anyone know the guy who cycles along the A43 Brackley by pass every morning around 8.15
Got to admire him, he look like he is just out for a Sunday ride. Doesn't even wear a helmet.

Still do TT`s on the Thanet Way, from St Nicholas up towards Reculver. Sunday mornings, fairly early. I think it may be a Thanet R.C. thing.

There have been evening 10's every week on the Brands Hatch course. Even though it's only 3 miles from where I live, haven't ridden it for a few years. It's a 4 mile slog to the turn, then a rapid 4 miles back through the start and then a free super fast descent to the finish - not a good course for a fixed.

Also can be a bit off putting when you realise it starts on a stretch of road that used to be called "Death Hill"!

Think that was the Big Foot boys.
Though Avanti also meet in Green St Green.

Which road is that?
I've always known Death Hill at Brands as being the run down from the track to the roundabout by Farningham (Main Rd Gorse Hill, A20). I think it was christened when that was a biker run from a café in West Kingsdown. Although you'd think it was the hill from the M25 roundabout down to the roundabout the other way, just because of how steep it is and how there must have been a time when it was all much tighter. Thinking about it, there must have been a time when the A20 went through Farningham and that hill would have been much tighter/narrower, my Father in Law remembered when the route from London to Dover went across Aylesford bridge. Anyway, I'd guess it was christened in the 50's/60's.
