who is supposed to clear cycle lanes

Kingston Council are fairly good - certainly they keep the paths in the town centre nice and clean, I often see one of the sweepers out there early in the morning. The town centre ones and by the station get full of broken bottles and other crap from the bars and restaurants around there.

A few around here are quite poor but it doesn't help major building works nearby. I hear the occasional 'popping' sound and pray that it isn't going to lead to a puncture!

I work at an office park in front of the local council 'Recycling and Waste Disposal' facility and (apart from the occasional bad smell) the road up to it is a bit ropey, not the surface as much as all the crap that comes out of the landfill trucks coming out and the bin trucks going in, plus local idiots too impatient to queue dump stuff in the bushes.

It looks nice and clean in the pictures, but these were taken on a nice day - in the dark, damp, cold days we have had over the last few months it has developed several nasty potholes and the rubbish seems to stick to everything. Sometimes lumps of things are laying in the road and you have to take evasive action, thankfully the road is usually quiet as there is no where else to go once the tip is closed, other than the 20 units on the Business Park.

I've had punctures when I used to use the car, cross fingers nothing on the Brompton yet.

My trunk road authority assured me the path beside the road is inspected weekly.....from a moving vehicle on the road, even although substantial lengths of the path are not visible from the road.
Then they changed their story and said it was inspected by someone walking along the path...annually.

I've seen the unchanged condition of the cycle lane after the council reported that the problem was dealt with on fillthanthole

I raised the issue of the condition of the cycle path that runs alongside the A 38 to the appropriate council last year and they did b*g*er all about it.

The section i have issues with is regularly strewn with bits of lorries and glass shards , i am tempted to get out there with a brush !

Have recieved an e-mail back today saying 'thank you for reporting the problem with the southend arterial road,the information has been passed on to the relevant officer to investigate and dealt with as appropriate,if a reply is needed we will respond to you once all the relevant details/information are at hand'.Fingers crossed on that one then!

I reported a problem with the A12 cycle path on fill that hole and it was dealt with.

Doncaster Metropolitan BC introduced a scheme called FLAG where people can report things like grafitti and broken glass etc. I have used the service on a couple of occasions regarding broken glass with great success. Not sure it would work with miles of cycle path though.

I would like to ask the same question related to the Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow... (
This is the shortest way to get to work at weekends but I had to choose a longer (but safer and relatively glass free) route through Bells Bridge because I was fed up with the punctures (approx. twice a month).
