thats brill ,i know of a guy up here who done similiar (he hired a van for the big things though (washing machine/bed ,etc,etc )and his trailer was basically three bread delivery baskets screwed onto a wooden sheet of ply or something

It's not impossible for most people to do that if they are not deeply attached to big possessions. Sometimes it can be cheaper to sell or freecycle large items and then replace them at the other end of a distant move.
I have friends who are doing just that at the moment for a move from West Yorkshire to Edinburgh. If they can get it all in their car then it saves on removal men or van hire. Every time they visit friends there they take stuff with them for storage.
