One thing seems odd to me... One can see only the online status of those contacts who follow you. That seems a bit backwards-road-about (as we say in these parts). How configurable is that? I wonder if it would be better if either the online status of those one follows is shown or maybe only the status of mutual followers (i.e. those people one follows who also follow you).

Unfortunately none of it is configurable - it's just one of those things you'll have to get used to. A quick click on the Chat tab at the top should load the window and show you how many people are in the chatroom at the mo. and the online list uses 'friends' to populate it, but XF uses separate sets (following/followed) and I think only one set is accounted for at the moment. I'll make a suggestion at the Cometchat forums for inclusion of both.
