Much as I'm a fan of Alan Partridge, he does seem to be basically Steve Coogan turned up to 11 with the social awareness filter turned off.

Which is largely the same act that Ricky Gervais does. I'm not saying that they're not funny (at times hilarious), but that's how I find them and at times it grates.

Peter Kay, for all his faults, has a love of his craft that shows through in his work.

When you write 'best', 'best' at what? One of them is an Oscar-nominated actor and the other two aren't. If you mean in talent, then Coogan is in a different league. Coogan has also developed many more characters than the other two, some you'll like, some you won't but it definitely shows he's more versatile and not always mining the same hole.

coogan and kay if i had to pick but the gerbil dont even register on my funny radar..is he funny?

I would watch Coogan and Kay live, but not Gervais. I wouldn't even want to see him alive.

I like all three of them and they have all created classic TV shows.

The Office is one of my all time favourites, Phoenix Night was excellent as is all the Alan Patridge incarnations.

Getvais' standup shows were pretty poor and I'm not a big fan of Kay's stand up shows either.

If it's who's professional work is the best - Coogan.

Who would you go to the pub for a drink with - Kay.
You probably wouldn't. Kay is rude and completely up himself. He was very rude to a lady I know well when she was checking him in on a flight, for no reason that she could see. He was very rude to another friend who is the landlord of a pub that Peter Kay went to, had the barmaid in tears with his comments.
