Weird one this...

Trying to transfer tracks to/from my 'new' (ie old) Creative Zen Touch. Weird thing is, even plugged in, it doesn't appear in 'My Computer'.

It's there in Device Manager. Appears by name as a USB-connected device.
It appears in Windows Media Player. And I can transfer tracks to it.
But not in My Computer. So I can't just drag & drop whole folders.

Any thoughts? Any help appreciated.

Reboot and a good old kick. Also a quick hard wear reset on the device, but back up your stuff.

Only saying this as Garmins can be a bit touchy sometimes.

I had an issue with a creative zen. try the following: Go to Control-panel->device manager. Click on 'portable devices' and the zen should be listed. It may well have a warning sign on. Right click and click 'Update driver software'. Click 'Browse my computer for driver software'. Then click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. There should be an option of 'mtp device' Click that and then click 'next'. That should reinstall the driver and your pc then pick up the zen device again.

Thanks but panic over! A bit of googling suggested downloading the latest update of Windows Media Player and that's done the trick! (It's a great player, BTW - sound quality's in a different league to my Philips...let alone my daughter's iPod.)

Pain in the ar5e though. Hate being the techy in the family, and my job isn't a techy, I count beans.

Oh well.

Yes I've got an old Creative Zen, persuading the player and the computer to talk to each other when I first moved to Ubuntu was interesting, and wasted most of an evening.
