Why didn't I do this ages ago?

I bought a new bike today (well, actually chose it yesterday, but money went down today). Money was tight, so I had a budget of £700, and I went in prepared to haggle. I tried a few bikes on a test ride, but ultimately plumped for last year's Giant Crs Zero. I'm not quite ready for a full road bike, it seems. I couldn't find any reviews online about it, but I like it - a lot. It's light compared to my GT Avalanche (oh so light) and responsive too.

And my word it's quick - with next to no effort. Why didn't I do this before?

Looks good Kaipath. I'm starting to quite like the Giant range, they certainly seem to be good value and generally good looking bikes, in a very modern way.

It's great when you get on a newer, faster, lighter bike isn't it? Less effort and more speed.

That looks nice, let us know how you get on with it. I'm thinking I may be able to get a new one next year hopefully.

Enjoy

Not that tight then...[/QUOTE]

Nothing like 'raining on his parade '
Having said that I have never seen as ridiculous a gearing that this bike has for a 'Lifestyle' hybrid .. do they expect it to be ridden up the north face of the Eiger or what?

Fair point, well made.

OK, so its not that tight but then I've been saving up for a while, leaves me with not a lot spare, and the £700 (£650 really) also covered new winter kit, helmet etc. Yeah, the gearing isn't great, but it seems to do what I want it to better than the other hybrids in the same price range, and I really didn't like the feel of the full road bikes.

Very nice, hope you have some money left for some mudguards :hyper:

Kaipaith,
I got the Giant crs 1.0 in April to do the C2C in June. It's a great bike and helped me get up the hills without stopping! The crs 0 looked even better!

Would agree about mudguards and fitted spd pedals as it was a good time to change over, [having had a MTB and an old Dawes racer until then].

Mudguards are a good idea... d'oh! Should have thought about that during bargaining. Ah well, I'll nip in tomorrow and pick some up.

Not so sure about SPDs though. Do they really add that much to the ride?
