Why do dogs always pee up against trees / lamp posts?

I hated that when my dog was a puppy. It's a common phenomenon with a name i cannot quite or want to remember.

I have seen similar; one small dog eating another bigger dogs vomit.
It does tend to keep your own hunger pains at bay.

Anyway, my dog peers up most vertical things, but on occasion squats though this is generally in the garden. The hitch never cocks a leg.

And they both have done the poo eating, feeding them pineapple seemed to stop that.
