why do long threads get locked - eg, my ride today?

Several threads reach the +1,000 page mark and the page numbers were getting rather too small.
A little bit of editing on @Shaun 's behalf improved the issue but the decision was taken that when a thread reached 1,000 pages it would be locked and a new thread started (by splitting the thread) simply because of the size issues... it is nothing personal. I think around 10 threads have been done this way now....

I do. For future reference though it would be best to put things like this in the Site Support forum or PM me; I don't get chance to read every thread these days and this could easily have been missed.
