Why do most CX brakes use smooth post pads?

You can adjust the leverage better by moving the pad nearer or further from the arm?

(I'm guessing here)

My Missus' bike has tektros that use V Brake pads - better for adjusting pitch and toe-in. My Frogglegs use trad. ones.

I have the Tekro CR520s and they're OK. Not pretty to look at though. Paul Neo Retros use v-brake pads too. All the rest use the trad smooth post pads. I see that TRP (posh Tektro) have developed a clever smooth post pad that can be toed-in. £50 a set mind. ;)
