...think its cute or even cool to call you "babes", "sweets" , "love" etc when they don't even know you?
I was surprised when I first moved to Sheffield and the man at the newspaper stand (remember them?) called me ''love.'' It took me a while to get used to men calling men love. Mind you, when I first moved to London and strangers called me ''mate,'' there was this little voice inside me that screamed ''You're not my mate, I don't even know you."

Oh, and there's another one: why did people wait till I was 50 before they started calling me ''young man?''

Right! Much better than having sweet young things calling you 'sir'' and giving up their seats on the bus...
Hasn't happened yet! My day will come.

Oh, why do we say ''on the back foot'' to mean defensive when back foot shots are the most attacking shots in cricket?

And why do we take ''backpedalling'' to mean going backwards when my bike just keeps on coasting along?

And why are ''downhill'' and ''over the hill'' negative? I feel very positive once I'm over the hill.

Why do people in the North of England.... and Wales, say 'Floor' when they mean the ground??

A floor is inside or part of something like a viewing platform/Balcony, whereas the ground is.... OUTSIDE!!
