Why do we bother?

I often wonder about this. There are many about this town over the winter but I have never heard of one being knocked off. Even if someone does have a deathwish, I just consider it very inconsiderate not to make a reasonable attempt to make yourself visible to other road users.

That's alright. They're at the top of the food chain so they're exempt from normal rules.
