... was my mum's question when i told her i wanted a Pashley Sonnet Bliss.

Why don't people understand that my carbon road bike is for summer, my old hack is for winter and I need a bike for just nipping to the shops and doing other stuff when I don't have time to get my kit on

Honestly! What is wrong with some people? They haven't got a clue.

I have the I-need-a-third-bike argument with my wife all the time.
Still haven't won her over, even after reminding her she has over 40 pairs of shoes, but only one pair of feet.

And the MTB, the folder, the fixie, the tourer, the don't-give-a-toss-if-it-gets-nicked pub bike.
I need a new garage. And maybe a 'bent.
*weeps*

I've got the three and I plan on adding 2 more this year. Hopefully it's be a while before the wife's notices two additional bikes in the garage.

I've got the tri bike, the jump bike, the full susser and I'm looking to add a crit bike and xc racer.

In the future I'd also like to add the tourer, the 'bent, the track, the cruiser bikes.

Just roll your eyes, call her a pedestrian, and flounce off in the most superior manner you can muster.

At one time I had nine. I could have bought a couple more but storage was a bit of a problem.

The trick is to buy your wife nice bikes at the same rate you buy your own. That way, you can always point out that she's got n bikes too.

Of course, you may have to extend your bike shed/garage, but that's a small price to pay.

It also helps if your wife owns two cars. That makes owning six bikes look quite moderate.
