some of you like to make an unholy show of yourselves in public by shouting and screaming at motorists? We all make mistakes and this includes drivers! I had a minor incident today and is only recorded because the video camera was turned on at the time.

If like me you're going a fair pace, it took a 6% gradient to knock me down to 17mph this morning (that's a recorded 510-540w), you've already got elevated adrenaline levels. Then the fact is that in the UK & the driver will 9/10 not wind the window down. Leaving you the only option but to shout at them if you want to make sure they do hear you. Of course the lack of courtesy of winding the window down adds further frustration to the situation.

Shouting/screaming when someone is endagering your life is a pretty standard thing.

This sums it up. I have near infinite patience for most things but when someone does something that could kill me, I get a bit shouty.

When people are just being stupid and get angry at you, not reacting or just shaking your head will wind them up far more than having a pop at them . . . not that winding anyone up is the point!

I have to say Mr Hippo that you went further than I would. I may have given a bit of a warning shout if I felt it would help, but wouldn't bother having a word with the driver. You Helmet camera cyclists - always looking for trouble! ^_^

BTW it looks an interesting place to cycle - a bit chaotic but it seems that car drivers are more attuned to other people using the roads (pedestrians, cyclists, mopeds, street sellers) than many in the UK would be. Traffic speeds are pretty high though. I have cycled in Brazil before now, and once you are used to the traffic flow it wasn't actually too bad, drivers weren't surprised to see other traffic in their way (although the accident rates on roads there is truly horrifying).

Had words with a driver last month (I was also driving)...he was shouting at me, calling me all sorts. I felt confident I had the moral highground so just kept smiling (it helped that I was locked safely in a steel box reinforced with crumple zones and peppered with air bags) untill I wound down my window, to more abuse and said..."you have a lovely day".

to which the bloke screamed "yeah you have a lovely day too" like it was an insult... and drove off.

I'm prepared to bet money that he got around the corner and chuckled to himself
