Blimey Glow Worm - are you one of those bods with a big aerial sticking out of your roof?

You probably know a bit about those strange unexplained note sequences that used to be played continuously for hours late at night on wavelengths used by east-European stations. I can't remember what they are called now

No special aerials as such- just a small loop thing for the AM and a longish wire for short wave. Living in a rural area helps I guess as there's less noise from electrics and stuff. Even the most basic receiver should be able to pick up stuff from a fair way off especially at night.

The numbers station(s) you describe sound like it could have been the Lincolnshire Poacher. But that was us rather than them. On short wave you could often find number sequences being read out too, frequently in German - I think that was mostly those pesky Russians and East Germans!

Great post Glow worm, I'd often wondered about some of these issues, nice explanation without being too 'techhie', I'd enjoyed reading that.
