Why don't more men drive Minis?

I know, but I need a car I can use every day and I don't know if I have the time or energy required to keep a proper mini in mint condition.

I would love driving it though.

My mate's got one. Once he'd got it up to the standard he wanted it's just wee jobs that he has to do to maintain.

Loud as a machine gun and properly flies. Get one!

I'm looking at buying one at the moment. I do less that 4k miles a year, and my current car is 10 years old and has less than 40k on it. I'm reluctant to sell because in 10 years other than the bits you expect to wear it has cost me two bulbs.
Anyway, my choice is a Mini Cooper which I am likely to keep for another 10 years, or a Cooper S which will be the last car I ever buy. Not decided yet, but the cash is sitting in my pocket burning a hole.

Edit: or do I buy a proper mini to polish and tinker with?

Well I didn't originally like them and did slag them off a bit, hairdressers car, feminine guys car etc..but that was before I drove one..... and the wife was insistent upon having one.
However after driving one my opinions have changed.
They can be a bit hard on the suspension and a bit noisy, particularly road noise, but they are still a good drive.

I used to have a Puma, similar set up with stiff suspension and not that refined, but such fun to drive.

With a 0 to 60 time of 25 seconds, maybe more cuddly old moggy than scalded cat.^_^
I guess the build quality, the noise, the harshness of the ride, the poor road holding gave a much bigger impressin of speed.
Plus it felt like your arse was only about 3" off the road - it was like driving a go-kart!

The other one that amuses me is when they try and market A "Women's car" and get it tragically wrong

The most famous are the Honda "Fita" (Later Jazz) which in some countries interpreted a s the "C word", and the "La Puta" which interpreted in some countries as " The Whore"

However the biggest joke ever was the Nissan "Pajero" which was a big 4*4 and translated in Southern Europe as "W@nker"

Best of all is as many thousands were imported into Europe before this in Scotland so I know at least a dozen vehicles in Portsmouth that brazenly testify to the owners sexual proclivity

So @ScotiaLass maybe quite accurate on occasion

Agree, just drive what you like. In this country cars hold such snob values, not so on the continent from what I've seen.
Wasn't really comparing my Subaru to a Mini, complete different beasts, I just need something smaller.

Agreed. One of them looks like a beast!

They caught my eye, but a bit new on the market and have had a few gearbox problems.

Weren't their big old Rexton 4X4's Mercedes based?
My parents have just bought one (a Tivoli), seems nice enough but I haven't driven it.
They went for an autobox. It's the same box as fitted in auto minis.
