Well,

Mrs S has had her newish Mini Cooper for a few months now and it's a little flying machine.
Seats fold down for the dog, good on the petrol, good build quality and drives like the proverbial go kart and it's quick.

It leaves my big 2.5 boxer engine Subaru estate standing.

I've mostly driven big estates, C8, Volvos, Subarus etc but now I find I don't need the big boot and I'm looking at downsizing to a smaller more economical car which with the rear seats permanently folded down gives a big boot and low sill for the dog.

I've done the rounds and at the price I'm looking at, the Mini Cooper wins hands down in quality.

The Mini sometimes gets labelled a girls car, estate agents car, etc.. but once you've driven one it's a different story.

I'm very, very tempted

I guess most male drivers are easily persuaded by the perception of them being 'girly'.

Just like the Mazda X5 is a 'hairdressers' car. Folk don't have the confidence to think independently.

There's a Jeremy Clarkson video on the Toyota Corolla where he busts all the usual myths about it being 'boring' and 'slow'. The 1.6 Corolla trounced a Golf Gti of the time in a drag race.

yeah..they're good fun..i've got one myself as a second car,a cooper with lohen tuning ,really rapid little car, well built and hold their value really well.a bit too stiff on the suspension for me to use everyday it's rock hard,my main car is a mercedes estate..i,, like you, love the ride comfort a big car gives you.
Buy one if you want to,,i get the "girls car" label from the guys at work...but b*llocks to them:okay:

Well I'm old enough and ugly enough to take the abuse and ignore it.^_^

The Mazda MX5, the wife test drove one last year, brilliant little sports car.

I mentioned I fancied a Mini to my better half, the response....I've been telling you for weeks to get one, it's just what you need !

As somebody who works on cars for a living I suggest that the build quality is not as good as most other vehicles I play with. I for one cannot stand that things for many reasons and would certainly not want to own or drive far the one I worked on yesterday.

Other people's opinions hold no value. Drive what you want.

Comparing a Mini to a Subaru Estate isn't exactly apples for apples though is it?

A: Four: Two in the front, two in the back.

A: None. It's full of elephants.
Q: How do you get two whales in a Mini?
A: Along the M4 and across the Severn Bridge.[1]
Q: How do you know there are two elephants in your refrigerator?
A: You can hear giggling when the light goes out.
Q: How do you know there are three elephants in your refrigerator?
A: You can't close the door.
Q: How do you know there are four elephants in your refrigerator?
A: There's an empty Mini parked outside.

If you want a mini, get one. And whilst you are there, could you clip to a no.2, and make sure the sides blend in because I have naturally spikey hair. No products, thanks.

Agree, just drive what you like. In this country cars hold such snob values, not so on the continent from what I've seen.
Wasn't really comparing my Subaru to a Mini, complete different beasts, I just need something smaller.
