A Kentucky man just needed a place to set his gun while he relieved himself in a restaurant restroom on Sunday, but the toilet paper dispenser may not have been the best choice.

The unidentified man was using the restroom at Fazoli's restaurant in Elizabethtown, Ky. when he set his pistol atop the dispenser. The weapon slipped off the dispenser and shot the man in the leg. Police told The News Enterprise that the trajectory of the bullet supported the man's account.

According to the AP, police said the man has a concealed carry permit and was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening injury.

You're not even allowed to shoot at those road tax dodging cylists riding in the middle of the road delaying your journey so what's the point in having one?

Most people I met over there were anti guns, but having said that I slept in a lot of churches!

I know from my friends there that many many carry concealed weapons. I only ever saw one gun, that was a hunter sitting on his porch with his rifle getting ready to go shoot some defenceless bear or something.

I did hear guns being shot on ranges in Kentucky though.

I met one lunatic with a 'sports' bow and arrow with radar and telescopic sights etc.

I never felt under any threat from weapons...even when I took a dump in Kentucky!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
To quote one of my favourite graphic novels
"A gun is a coward's weapon. A liar's weapon. We kill too often because we've made it easy... too easy... sparing ourselves the mess and the work."

It's a bit more complicated than that...
My ride on Sunday was more or less continuously accompanied by gunfire. It's one of the perils of living in the badlands of Buckinghamshire, where the nearest big house is in the (temporary) hands of the minor aristocracy.

You can imagine the scenario..

At my brother's wedding in Michigan, my Mum and I were jet-lagged and wanted to return to our hotel, visible above the trees about 200 yards from the out-laws' house. When we suggested walking there were gasps of shock; "You can't walk! There's no road and you'll have to hike through the forest; if anybody sees you they'll take you for burglars and shoot you!"

We had to be driven to the highway, a couple of miles to a junction, back, round another junction, back again and into the hotel to cover 200 yards.

For a while I read home brewing forum based in the US. A not uncommon thread in its equivalent of CC's Cafe was the "Where can I get concealed carry license for [insert state here]?".

Having never read it let alone understood it 50% (a figure I made up) of USAsians support the second amendment which gives them the right to have a gun or three they believe, the first and fourth amendments that are more important IMO are allowed to be abused.

Not sure why the person needed to conceal a weapon but the police/court must have been happy to issue a permit. A pistol is a short range gangster type weapon, a last ditch weapon. Most military and police use automatic pistols chambered for a 9mm round. In the military you are only issued one when you have been instructed on the weapon and past a yearly test, no matter what weapon you have you have to have the proper training. The person using this pistol had loaded it and made ready, this means it was ready to fire, you pull it out, safety catch off (not all pistols have them) and pull the trigger. I would never go anywhere with a weapon in this state unless I thought I was going to be using it.
He was very lucky that he had a survivable gunshot wound and the round didn't hit anybody else.

The below is from Reuters.

Members of the North Florida Survival Group wait with their rifles before heading out to perform enemy contact drills during a field training exercise in Old Town, Florida, December 8, 2012. The group trains children and adults alike to handle weapons and survive in the wild. The group passionately supports the right of U.S. citizens to bear arms and its website states that it aims to teach "patriots to survive in order to protect and defend our Constitution against all enemy threats".
