As I've said before and I'll say again - in this household, the dining room is for bikes! ;)
We actually got rid of some furniture to accommodate bikes  The dust-covered GIANT isn't mine ;)

we can fit all family members bikes in the hall ( well one each ) but then its a bit tight for space. and the walls are marked badly but nothing a damp sponge doesn't sort

Only one bike in our hall I'm afraid. There are loads of scuffs on the wall due to the bars, and the general mank on the back of the front door is where Bertie used to unleash his ferocious savagery on the post. We put down a seven foot run of door matting for the bike to sit on.

Brilliant pictures. I've just sold one of my bikes. The lady who came to collect it commented that my house looked like a bike shop! Which is even funnier when you consider she didn't see the bikes that are in the garage!

When I visit at least two different friends houses ... (just thought of another), I take my bike into their hallways:whistle:. I have put mine in the hall temporarily but it is too narrow so I keep bumping into it so it is never for long.

My hall isn't long enough to accommodate any bikes, my fixed is in the back of the dinning area and the rest are in the shed.

Does anyone else watch Grand Designs and start imagining how bikes/bike workshop would fit in? Especially some of these huge open plan designs.

Yes.

I occasionally see those huge blue corrugated metal warehouse sheds in the middle of the countryside and imaging converting one of those as industrial building preservation.
I would cut in some windows and then line the whole interior with straw bales for insulation. The interior space would then provide a huge workshop on the ground floor with living space above in the roof line. The living space would be little more then a 2 bed flat but the workshop space would have a metal workshop, a wood workshop, an office, a design studio, a large open plan setting out space and garage parking for powered vehicles, bikes, and trailers.

I also think of all those long expired petrol stations/garages in rural areas in the same way. The fuel tanks would need to be dug out for safety and that would provide a huge hole in the ground for a basement workshop space, accessed by a long ramp or a vehicle lift. The shop part of the garage would be accommodation as a 2 bed bungalow while the rear forecourt (rearcourt?) area would be great 'shed' space for vehicles, bikes, trailers, etc. and the front forecourt area would be a pretty veg garden.^_^

In my house I already have a ground floor wood workshop, a basement metal workshop, an office/design studio, and a second design studio (for Arch) in progress. When my parents pass away, I will convert their granny flat and the rest of the basement into more workshop space. I may be too old to make use of the space by then though.
