I bought a
Decathlon Triban 7 hybrid bike six or seven years ago in Orleans as a direct replacement for my Dawes Galaxy whose frame had fractured at the rear drop out. I managed to conduct the entire transaction in French - no choice really as the assistant that was dealing with me spoke no English but the quality of service could not be faulted.
The following year, back in France in Tours, the bottom bracket failed. I took it to the Decathlon branch there and asked the the service department to replace it there and then. Initially they said no but when I pointed out that I was on tour and could not afford to lose time because I had to catch the Bike Express coach they did the replacement without fuss and adjusted the brakes and gears while they were at it. I couldn't face asking for a warrantee replacement at the time as I was a tad stressed and my French would have been tested to its limit.
Upon my return to the UK I contacted the UK Decathlon operation and asked about a refund of fitting fees and the the cost of the bottom bracket - they couldn't have been more helpful. I was referred to the Sheffield branch where I dealt with the bike service manager - I was offered a full cash refund or goods worth 125% of the refund.
I'm still using the excellent bike service stand that met the refund criteria.
