Have to say that NXEC's (formerly GNER) decision to have free wi-fi on their trains for all passengers really cuts down on hideous travelling time (and is not too slow, either) - do any other uk train companies offer free wi-fi on their trains?

Excellent decision. AFAIK before a lot of the franchises changed no one did.

It would make sense for Virgin to do it now their brand is attached to the former NTL/Telewest and of course Virgin Mobile.

I tell you what though, I was heading up to Waterloo recently with my laptop and I set it to scan for Wifi networks - my god they were scrolling up the screen so fast it wasn't true. Some of them were open, although I'm not sure you'd get connected before you'd whizzed past and out of range.

Might as well give punters something to do on trains whilst they are waiting for platforms/ points/ red signals/ leaves on line... put the ticket prices up as well - for the improved facilities. ;) Wi fi on platforms would be an even better idea!
