Hello all,

I need a new phone and have decided instead of going for the cheapest or one someone else has lying around ( my usual selection method) I am going to spend some money ! I was wondering about a few things with regard to The phones wifi. Question 1 will it auto connect to my House Wifi when in range so that I can use Internet with out using my phone Internet allowance ? How will I know it has connected to this ? ie: does it tell you ? Can I transfer files via the wifi ? Will I be able to stream radio stations via wifi or my phones Internet connection ? I'm most likeley looking at one of the Samsung Galaxy phones on 3.

Many thanks all.

Yes it can use your home wifi, you just need to enter your router details into the phone (the passcode etc).
The phone will be pre set up to use wifi first, then your 3G allowance.
You will be able to tell it is connected as a little symbol will appear on the screen. Looks like this:

Yes, you can transfer files by wifi, although it is easier to connect it by cable.
There are many different applications you can download to listen to internet radio via wifi or 3G on the phone.
The Samsung Galaxy phones are very good, I would recommend them

Thanks Crazy580 for the info much appreciated, I'm guessing you have or have had one of these phones if so I wondered if you knew if Linux software was included in the Driver CD ? I'm hoping so with Android being a custom built Linux not really a major problem if I can transfer files via wifi !

I've got a Galaxy s2, and it didn't come with a driver CD. It comes preloaded with "Klies Air" which creates an "address" which you type into your computers browser and then you can transfer files from your computer to phone. I haven't tried it with Linux, but works fine with a Mac (which doesn't recognise the phone if connected via USB lead)

Most phones will have some sort of "portal" or connection software.

When cable connected the phone will appear as another drive on the computer, or as another destination on your network.

File transfer is by drag and drop
