Hi,

I have Alexrims DP17 rims with Conti Sportcontact 700*32s.

I want to fit something lower in profile, say 700*23 or 25.

Do you think I be able to fit these to the DP17s, and will they "work"?

DP17s are ETRTO 622X17mm, tech specs can be found here:

For what it's worth, Cyclesurgery say No, Evans say Yes, ex pro cyclists says "stick wtih 700*28".

Cheers,

H

According to Sheldon Brown (the simple chart at the bottom is easiest), a 17mm internal rim width such as yours could safely take the 25mm but not the 23mm and he admits that his figures are on the cautious side.

I think it would be safe enough but you might find the ride a bit harsh. The 23mm tyre sidewalls may not be rounded enough. I would choose this width of rim to run a 28mm or 32mm tyre personally.

Brilliant, thanks guys. Will probably go with 25s and see how that works out. If they are no good they can always go on the road bike when that's due for new tyres.
