I was so cold this morning. This is the first time I have cycled past September let alone into November. I promptly got to work and have ordered a pair of thermal longs to wear! I am determined that the only thing to keep me off the bike this winter is ice and stupidly heavy rain.

I haven't worn a pair of long trousers since the beginning of May, on the bike or off it. You're legs acclimatize and when I am forced back into longs it feels like I'm wearing bondage trousers (Not that I know what bondage trousers feel like, you understand )

It was overcast and cool till 12:00.....the sun came out and I managed to get a 20 miler in......wearing shorts. It really was very pleasant.
Temperature set to drop 4 degrees by Wednesday.
I am so not looking forward to winter cycling
shorts until 5 degrees, then 3/4 until 2 and then longs....sometimes I go to 3/4 earlier...cos I likes them.

I've done three 12.5 recovery rides in the last three days. All of them wearing shorts. I was out till 4,40pm today and i could feel the cold on my legs. Yes i've been wearing cycling shorts but i've also had four or five layers on top!:cold:

Just had a peep out of the window. Ice formed on the car roof. It's gonna be a bit parky in the morning chaps!
A smattering of frost here too, at 06:30 ish

Doubtless, there'll be a few of recent converts/cycle-2-workers still out in shorts/short sleeves (because that's all the kit they have??)

I'm not denigrating them, after all, they are out on the bikes, but, buy some appropriate clothes, guys! (& some girls too)

Yep. As I predicted yesterday. I donned the knee warmers. I also dug out the Night Vision Evo jacket. Though by the time I got to work I was a little too warm. The NVE is only really worth wearing at temps below 4°. It was 5 when I left and got a couple of degree's warmer. And when you are pushing it then those extra couple of degrees make a difference. I suppose though that being too warm is better then too cold.

Monday: Above zero, so still in shorts. Only it was a cold Northerly wind in my face all the way to work, and my eyes stung and watered all the way there. Patches of ice, and met a fellow commuter who had been kissing tarmac just by a bridge over the river. She was OK.
Tuesday: Frost outside, and fairly thick. Still haven't replaced the trousers that I wore out last winter, so bamboo tights and mountain bike shorts, and I was on the main roads keeping off the frosty cycle path. Buff to keep my neck warm, and all was OK.

The problem with main roads is the traffic - difficult to get past. On the other hand, it is a good reminder after you have questioned your sanity on stepping out of the back door into the cold. Hey, I could be in a nice warm car going nowhere!

Think I had my last shorted ride for awhile yesterday. Even mid-afternoon the biting north wind made it feel less stalwart than foolhardy.
