True I guess, but I don't want to get the thing knackered by road salt et al. Where as I don't mind my old shed getting wrecked. The Carbon can come out again in Spring

It won't get knackered by road salt. Not the frame anyway.
The component's though is a different matter.
Give the bike & components a wipe down and it will be fine.

I did initially set it at 1000 commuting miles then realised a could smash that as I've increased the miles per day and the fitness level. Will hopefully get to the target by the end of the year. Weight wise I've dropped just over 1.5 stone (or whatever it is in new money) and would like to hit 2 by end of year.

My aim was to do 2-3 cycling commutes per week (about 23.5 miles round trip) in 2011. I am currently fluctuating at 3.3 - 3.4.

I was knocked off and hospitalised in the winter which kept me off the the bike for a couple of weeks; I then had another 'off' which put me out of action for a further week in the spring. I am having hernias done in December so this will be a further period off the bike, but as this will coincide with Xmas it won't make a lot of difference to the final count.

So I am feeling pretty smug about how I'm doing.

(It is not always possible for me to commute by bike as I sometimes don't finish work at the office and it would be impractical to return to get my bike for a commute) Well thats my excuse anyway!)

I don't want to be washing the thing down every night; I'd rather give the Carbon a good fettle and a good lube and store it for winter. The ol' shed is heavier, more robust and (basically) I couldn't give a sh1t about it! Plus, if I were to throw my Carbon bike down the road on some ice or something I'd be uber gutted!!! It may come out on fine, dry weekends for a spin

There are only 10 weeks to go until the end of 2011!!

I passed 3,000 miles this morning - 3,006 to be exact.

I think I have a 50/50 chance of hitting my 4,000 mile target by the end of the year, provided I stay healthy and it doesn't snow!

My other target was to get from 107kg to 90Kg by the end of the year, I am at 93.5kg now so I am on target for that one as well.

How are you all getting on with your 2011 aims?

I gave myself the same target this year and I'm only 74 miles behind target. I've been logging them on mycyclinglog and I just noticed that we should have done 3200 miles by midnight tonight.

No weight target though - I'm a fairly slim 6'1'' and my weight is pretty static at 75kg and if I knock it down I find I've less energy to cycle. Even the hills hurt more

My target was 7,000 miles for this year.
But I've not even hit 3,000 yet. Injuries at the start of the year, injuries in the middle of the year hasn't helped.

My target - if you can call it such - is daily commute, and other than few days for repairs it's been pretty much every day. Then again I'm way beyond even thinking about weather so it's rather business as usual rather than any sort of challenge. Any semblance to sports is largely coincidence.

No, but that's down to taking on a job which means less time and opportunity for cycling.

Set myself to do 2400 miles thas year, up from 1800 target and 2000 actual last year but will be lucky to match last year's 1800 target.

Need to do more to keep my general fitness up - working on it.

BTW why is this thread in commuting?

i was doing quite well... til i broke my elbow! that put paid to my 'no commuting by bus from spring half term to autumn half term' target, my 'do more fnrttcs' target, my 'do a southern fnrttc' target and my 'go ride my bike in scotland' target (although i managed to fob my tickets and my silly bike adventure camping plan off on kim who went north on my behalf). i also utterly failed to take my eldest touring, although that wasn't elbow related.

i suspect i have done more miles this year than last, despite nearly 6 weeks (so far) off the bike at my favourite time of year. that was one thing i was aiming for. and i did a couple of audaxes - one 100km, and a 50km with the eldestcub. the fracture happened just in time to save me from getting dragged round a flatlanders 200!

Well my target started on September 11, and I aim to do 5000 miles in a year.

So far I have beaten 500 miles and should have done 1000 by Nov 30. 2000 by Jan 31, 2500 by Mar 17, 3000 by May 31, 4000 by Jun 23, and 5000 by Sep 9.
I should have completed 534.25 miles by today and I have done 619.64. at an average speed of 14.21 mph (whole journey speed).

The down side though is that as the weather is getting colder, I will be using the TT a lot more, so will not be doing miles, just exercise.

EDIT: I will start a seperate target at the start of next year of 6000 miles.

I will hit my 3,000th this Friday (2,971 today (Weds))

This is on my 'new' Allez road bike (bought in March). In the prev 12 months I did a tad over 4,000 on my Dawse hybrid, and I use this road bike a fair bit more than I used that one. I'm hoping for 4,500+ for the full year.

I'm hoping Santa wiil bring me an Allez Comp this year. Then I can start my cycling year in January.......hey, another reason for me to get a new bike for Xmas. Must tell the Missus that!

Hmm, let's see.... targets.....

10,000 miles in 12 months .... nope. Will be about 8,500, but the grey and windy Summer reduced the number of properly long rides I felt like doing.

100 solo miles at 20mph. Nope. Got a bit closer: 107 at 19.3 and 84 at 19.8, but I think this one might elude me. Stupid target for an oldish git.

To enjoy my cycling. Oh yes, very definitely. Target hit.
