My second time getting a soaking since I got my bike a few weeks back. Today I was almost fully prepared with waterproofs and overshoes. The receptionist laughed out loud when I walked in with road gloop on my face. I went out this afternoon and bought a clip on frame front mud guard as I've got mild suspension on the front.

I can remember before I started cycle commuting some advocate was telling me statistically you only get wet x number of times a year; it seems like a lot more than x ;)

I have heard the figure of about a dozen times banded about several times so back in 2007 I did a count of the number of days it was raining during my commuting times. Between April and October it totaled around 60 days when I did, or would have got wet, and this is in the SE, not exactly one of the wetter areas in the UK.

Now I am all for promoting cycling, but not if it involves talking bollocks.

Out of just under 300 rides to / from work this year, I've got wet just over 20 times. There's another not quite 20 times when it rained either just before I left or just after I arrived. Rest of the time was dry.

That's in the South East.

Yep, I have kept records. ;)

I'm afraid I didn't wimp out and did my very first commute in the rain. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than a dry commute. ;)

Is this normal?

I don't know about enjoy it more, but I really don't mind the rain. I love splashing through puddles and all, but my glasses getting wet / steaming up is quite irritating. Gonna try the peaked cap approach ..

I don't even mind arriving in wet stuff (didn't put waterproofs on this morning - see the "lovely day" thread) but am not a huge fan of putting damp clothes back on , though having said that I find once I'm on my way I soon forget about it ..

So I guess you are quite normal leighd. ;) Though your friends, family and colleagues probably won't agree ..

Decided my waterproof overtrousers are not really that waterproof today. Any suggestions?

Shorts.......seriously, skin dries much quicker than clothes and if your trunk is warm then your legs wont matter a jot.

Not that i'm calling you an elephant or anything!!

No, you are very strange and should not be allowed out without supervision!!

(Pssst, don't tell anyone, but I quite enjoy riding in the rain too...so long as it's not too chilly, I like the feeling of being all kitted up and impervious to the elements...bit like when I go mountain climbing, i love that in really foul weather, sun is just dull and sweaty)
