The trouble then is that I need the space on my bars for lights !

See below for jerry-rigged success...

I'd be really shallow if I said it makes your bike's front end look like a warthog - after all, it should all be about what works best for you and I bet you will trounce all sorts with your new-found aerodynamicism !

The problem I have is my current bike is drop bars so the aerobar clips would take up all the available space for lights. Could just use a headtorch, perhaps..

Enjoy your ride !

Why? Surely they make just as much sense as on a drop bar bike? Arguably more so if the differential between flatbar and aero bar is greater than the differential between dropbar hoods and aero bar?

Stu

Why? What's the point of trying to make a bike that is by its nature a parachute slightly more aerodynamic? Just get a road bike with drops, and you'll be ahead without fitting any aero-bars at all.

I was not going to get a new bike just for one little informal race, so adapting my flat bar road bike with aero bars suited me perfectly and I put in a respectable time for my team. Not everyone can afford to just toddle out & buy a road bike.

An average sized human on a drop bar, riding on the hoods 95% of the time, hardly constitutes a minuscule aerodynamic signature, now does it?

Some people prefer the position of flat bars for general riding, but might want to get down low from time to time. It's the same principle as hoods to drops.
