I used cotton wool in my ears because I noticed the same thing. An ear test confirmed that I was losing the top end of my hearing range and my Tinnitus, which I've had for 25 years had suddenly got worse. After investigations for something more serious, they gave me a hearing aid for my Tinnitus ear and the wind noise isn't so bad now.

I have Tinnitus as well and noise is a problem... bummer.

I have been thinking of the same thing.
Often I don't need to wear a buff but do so to keep the wind off my ears (I get ear ache).
I was thinking of just sewing some material over the triangle of straps on the side of my (cycling) helmet.

Exactly. but with just enough curve on the tailing edge [akin to a reversed horse blinker!!]
