Rain, snow, even ice I can deal with, but I really HATE wind!

On my way into work yesterday I once again had to battle up a hill with the wind trying to push me back down and arrived at work completely exhausted, on the way home I had the wind trying to push me sideways off my bike or into the path of lorries.

I can only remember ONE time I had a tail wind making my life easier rather than harder!

I suggest we all write to our respective MPs and councils urging them to ban wind!

Hi Jezston.
Avoid spicy food and try some peppermint pills.
I find that helps

How do birds do it?
How do they fly into the wind with hardly a flap of the wings?

How do crows soar on the breeze without flapping and seem to fly forward against the wind?

Could I use their tactic on my bike?

There are two things cyclists hate.
One is watching rain water flowing down the hill in the opposite direction, and
seeing leaves whisk down the road in the opposite direction.

I didn't ride home last night because I couldn't face another morning riding in to a head wind, wimp! My legs were just too knackered.

Strangely enough, I like both hills and adverse winds. I would agree that the presence of heavy traffic, especially lorries takes a lot of enjoyment away. Let's ban other traffic instead!

For when it gets cold - has anoyone used leg warmers? They look a bit tight to get on for my rather ample/overweight legs! Anyone had any experience?

Only cyclist understand the hatred of the wind. I would add my other pet hates - barking dogs that chase bikes!

It is when they are going backwards that you know it is a strong wind...

Here is a wee something I wrote about cycling in high winds a few years ago...

The fastest wind I have every stood in was on the boat deck of the QE2. The ship was doing 30 mph into a force 8 and the recorded windspeed was 74 mph.

The fastest artificial wind I've ever stood in was 120 kmh in the Motor Industry Research Association climatic wind tunnel.

Chris Boardman on the Lotus bike in the nineties sat in the climatic wind tunnel with the bike strapped to a strain table. They took it to 90 kmh ( 56 mph ).
Then we went in and they took it to 120 kmh.
