The fastest wind I have every stood in was on the boat deck of the QE2. The ship was doing 30 mph into a force 8 and the recorded windspeed was 74 mph.

The fastest artificial wind I've ever stood in was 120 kmh in the Motor Industry Research Association climatic wind tunnel.

Chris Boardman on the Lotus bike in the nineties sat in the climatic wind tunnel with the bike strapped to a strain table. They took it to 90 kmh ( 56 mph ).
Then we went in and they took it to 120 kmh.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Land Rover, the company invited the entire workforce to a giant picnic at the Gaydon Motoring Heritage Centre.
They hired one of those 'sky diving simulator' machines. It was worth the one hour wait.

It was rather windy today I was being blown all over the place this morning, glad I wasn't further up north said 80 mph winds on the weather last night, it would of been good if it was behind you, but it never is! At one point climbing I was struggling just to keep going forward.

When you are riding up hill against a strongish wind, rest your chin on the stem.

In between here and there
another thing about wind, I get in to work or home, and quip "crikey that was tough with that head wind" and people look at me as if I am mad you can see them looking outside or virtually licking their finger and sticking it in the air

Oh well character building anyway.

I'm looking forward to the cycle home tonight. It's supposed to be gales to severe gales!

At least it should mostly be a tail wind!

Side gust must get you as much as everyone surely BM?
Head winds I can deal with, but the sharp gusts as you pass the end of a side road at the moment are harsh!

Funnily enough I'm hardly affected, even with the disc wheel on and the tailbox. If the side gusts are very strong, it can start to get out of hand at 30-40mph, but it's fine at normal speeds on the flat.

I don't mind the wind, unless it is assisting me in meeting the vehicle next to me! I don't mind the rain either, I find the spray thrown up from lorries amusing. BUT I DO HATE PUDDLES - when the tow path has enough water to float canal boats on I think it is a bit too much - not too keen on getting wet feet!!

Not too bad this morning until I rode over the bridge over the M42. The wind was funnelling down the motorway at a fair rate. With that and dodging falling branches, wet drain covers and the ever increasing amount of dead badgers and foxes on the roads it's been an interesting week.

I got hit by a gust coming over Battersea Bridge today and did a two foot wobble. Scary stuff in the traffic, but it's strong headwinds that I detest. They just sap my morale.

I found out how crows fly into the wind without flapping their wings.

They trim their wings to make extra high pressure on the underside and slant their wings leading edge down, counteracting the downward tendency with lots of tail up.

Now to devise a wing for my helmet.
