Anyone else have shall we say a challenging ride tonight due to our friend the wind?

I just got back from a 20 miler there was 1 point i was flat out in the best gear I could push 9 miles an hour and that was down a hill.

Must admit 22 miles an hour steady pedalling on a flat was nice when I got the tail wind though:tongue: but the cons definitely outweigh the pros in my book.

I was highly surprised by how much even a mild side wind can affect a cyclist, I found out today as the wind pushed me sideways and almost off the bike!

60 miles this morning, out to the Café on my own and very hard work into the wind in places, decided to join the slow group when we left the Café, and had nice steady ride back.

Yes... A jolly windy day!

I was riding fixed-gear in the Malvern Hills, but if I'd had a choice I'd have been changing down everywhere.

Trees were bending all over the place and coming out from behind hedge cover was a big, big gamble at any decent speed.

I ought to have stayed at home...

It was pretty windy down here in Kent too. I went out for a 50 mile loop and the first 11 miles were a piece of cake because it was pushing me along. However, towards the end it was quite wearying as I was then heading straight into it on top of the tiredness I was feeling by then. Oh and this section had some steep hills to contend with too, so the headwind of course was very helpful. But c'est la vie.

The last two miles thankfully were very easy as I was going the same way I'd set out.

But all in all, a great ride

Was very windy on IOW for the Randonnee, the whole of the South of the Island was straight into what felt like a gale.

I have to say that I find cross winds a real problem, a couple of occasions today a big gust nearly had me off the bike, (and one particularly strong one nearly had me in the sea!)

Any tips on coping with cross winds?

Funny enough, I was just about to start a similar thread. My ride tonight was truly awful, although I doubt just due to the wind. A definate off day for me. I turned home after just over 6 miles and called it a day! Gutted as ride time is limited since Mini DB II came along so to not make full use of the time frustrated me a little.

This said, reading some replies on here cheered me up!

Going out for thirteen miles was fine...but half of the second thirteen coming home reduced hills to a very sapping slog.

Still, my brother reckons windy miles count double :laugh:

Did a solo 57 miler Friday and luckily my route was straight out into the wind, with a helping tail wind at the end of the ride.

Did a 20 mile MTB club ride yesterday and at one point high on the fell I was riding on a gravelly road when a big gust hit me sideways on; I steered to compensate and my front wheel washed out on the gravel, luckily I didn't fall off but it was close.

I managed a 220 mile round trip on my bike yesterday. The wind was bad at times but I just used that as an excuse to stick to the fun roads and not to go on the motorways.

It looks even windier today, I might try cycling instead.

Did my first hundred miler yesterday, amd with the route being a loop roughly 30 miles was bucking crossing headwinds to headwinds. Our little group of four did OK, apart fom one not wanting to take a turn at the front like we other three were  It does make it easier when there's someone else to shelter you for a while as you don't get so battered. The last 10 miles, being Westwards, were bliss, speeds well up into the 20's for minimal effort
