It is my understanding that closest surveillance by the "authorities" is carried out on people who turn off all the messages to Microsoft. The number of feeds turned off can be regarded as a measure of involvement in dubious activities, the more they turn off, the deeper they are engaged in murky business:whistle:.
I've turned all mine off.

Mine is also locked down with everything off.

The only murky activity I get up to is going on strava

I am on Windows 7 and really see no need to change it.

Recently on my toolbar a little button has appeared that says "get windows 10" and every morning a little pop-up appears encouraging me to get it too. That, in my view is a good reason to try to avoid them as much as possible.

Anyone know how I can switch the frigging pop up off?

There's a link in the other Windows 10 thread, for that.

It's dead easy in Windows 7....press the start button, then press "Shut Down". Voila, the pop up is now off. So is the rest of the computer too. Bonus, eh!

Does anyone know about things Linux ?

I know nothing about it other than that there are different versions and that once upon a time you had to be quite geeky to make it work. On a scale of 1 to 10, my geek level is about a 3. I've built PC's in the past but have always installed whatever windows was current at the time. I even managed a duel boot win98 / xp setup once.

I quite fancy having a win10 / linux duel boot.

Does anyone know if someone at geek level 3 would be capable of doing this and what flavour linux would be best for me?

Hello all,

I know we have a windows 10 thread going already on here but one thing I've noticed about it is how seemingly intrusive it is.

It was to know everything including your inside leg measurement.

I'm no IT person, just a user and I've turned everything off as far as I can. Page after page of settings in the various menus.

Am I being silly?

I don't want to share anything, to have my pc know where I am, to share my bandwidth, to get to know me or any of that nonsense.

Call me old, as I am.

Number Six: What do you want?
Number Two: Information.
Number Six: Whose side are you on?
Number Two: That would be telling. We want information… information… in formation.
Number Six: You won't get it.
Number Two: By hook or by crook, we will.

Linux is for hippies, sandals wearers and fixed gear weirdos. That's all you need to know.

Get a Mac. Or an iPhone. I haven't used a laptop outside of the office in years.
