Not impressed, Microsoft! I could swear both the 'Libraries' and 'File History' features were written by graduate programmers and never properly code-reviewed, unit-tested, verified and validated.

Here's what's wrong with them:
  1. File History cannot be configured to backup anything except what's in the individual library entries under 'Libraries' in Windows Explorer. I was wondering why File History backed up my files so quickly, and then realised that because (like any experienced PC user who likes the PC customised to suit him/herself) I had put a lot of my data in non-library locations and never added them to a library, they simply weren't being backed up! This is a major shortcoming, because it simply won't occur to many Windows users to add folders they wish to backup to the libraries, and so they won't get backed up (by File History, at least) - data loss trap #1.
  2. If you select a library under 'Libraries' to view its contents, the Delete operation does exactly what it would do to the original folder - sends it to the Recycle Bin (assuming that's enabled, of course). This is another major trap for inexperienced Windows users - data loss trap #2. The correct way to remove a folder from a library without deleting the original folder location is to
    • right-click the library and select Properties.
    • click the folder entry listed in this library's contents, and click the Remove button.

I can live with the above, but I'm a software engineer, and so little quirks like these don't have me throwing up my hands in despair, only irritating me.
