Windows 7 and Media center help.

Hi.

Hopefully someone might have an idea on this problem.

Basically, I've got Windows 7 running fine and media center, just I scan for TV channels, it picks them all up, the only problem is, it does not seem to be able to display channels such as Virgin 1, Film 4, ITV4 etc..., it picks them up scanning, but it's just a black screen.

Any ideas?

I can't check the cabling up to the arial, I'm in student halls.

Are you sure you're actually picking them up scanning, and they're not already preset ?
I've had occasion with satellite boxes that have preset channels, and I've had to delete all channels then re-scan to see what the dish was actually receiving.

I take it this a built in freeview tuner?
Can anybody else see the channels on their receivers andnormal digital TV's - it may be that the signal for those channels is not reaching the area?
meenaghman gives good advice about the retune. i wonder aswell, in light of the recent digital retune, if Media centers line up for your service is up to date, eg i tell mine that I use Sky in the Midlands, and it puts all the channels against the right channel number to control the Sky box.

My TV picks up channels when scanning but the signal's too weak for a picture.

It's not preset, this is an external USB TV Tuner, freeview capable, I should hope the signal is reaching the area I'm in the city center of Manchester.

Maybe my area can't recive it actually, but that's odd, I can't get ITV 3 or 4. I've retuned many times.

You wouldnt be doing a touch of licence evaision now.
I'm in halls to though my laptop does not have a tuner. I use something called tvcatchup.com which streams tv of the web.
