My friend rang me, saying she has lost hers! She had a transparent bar on her homescreen that she had various things in (Itunes, recycle bin etc) but has somehow removed it accidently and hasnt a clue how to get it back. Im on W7 on my laptop too but cant find anything remotely like she is talking about.
Anyone know??

This is the first thing I'd check:

-Right click on an empty space on the desktop - A menu will appear.
-Select "View"
-Make sure "Show Desktop Gadgets" is ticked.

I'd put money on it not being part of Windows. HP have something like she describes (hateful thing it is too) and Office also installs a tool bar.

If the Windows Gadget bar is showing up fine, then it's probably what Norm says - As there are no other hotbars/gadget bars which come default with Windows (Edit: Apart from the task bar in the post below). Lots of OEM's (Asus and HP are two examples) install various hotbars which I believe run as separate programs, as opposed to Windows Gadgets which runs as part of the operating system.

It's kind of hard to diagnose the issue without knowing exactly what this hotbar/gadget bar is.

This may sound simple, but she doesn't mean this does she? As it is possible to make it disappear if you select the right (or wrong) settings..

No, its not that, she swears she is on the "same computer as mine but a dell not a samsung" (!!!) and she has several desktop icons on the left of the screen, the clock, weather and currency widgets from the gadget gallery on the right of the screen, and at the top, about 5" x 1" transparent bar containing icons for Itunes, recycle bin, a padlock symbol and a couple more things.
