I am also dreading the family support calls - it's bad enough when they are using the same version as me!

Guess what - have my FIL's Windows 8 laptop here - I'm supposed to try and make it like Windows 7 - you can't.

He's a gadget freak, got Iphone, ipad - both which he doesn't use, and a decent windows 7 laptop, but he's filled it up (hard drive). Won't listen about using a portable drive, so has bought another laptop, this time Windows 8. That said it's still got a small hard drive - argh, so he will fill it up.

Had a quick shuffle with it, put some icons on so he can find stuff, but it is different, more pad/touchscreen use though. Not doing any more and he can have it back.

You can near enough. Some handy hints here, as well as some other useful stuff including about the Start menu here.

I know what your feeling pal, guess we all have data hoarders in the family. Most windows versions you always wait a few months before even thinking of committing to it. Maybe push everyone onto Ubuntu!

Go on, tilt your head!
Having used Windows 8 a fair bit now, I think its clear to see that the latest version of Windows is a transitional phase ready for things to come.

For instance, I needed to change an acount type to local so as not to require a Windows Live account for login, this was acheived partly by browsing the legacy User Accounts applet within Control Panel and partly by using the new User Accounts 'app'. It seems that they have included all legacy options but stripped a few bits out and put them into their own 'apps'.

Its some kind of weird hybrid that I predict will get more and more 'app' based in the next revision.
