Now I don't want a load of peeps telling me i must upgrade to w7 or w8, or switch to linux...

Is anyone going to continue using XP after Micro$oft stop supporting it in April?

I'm sure M$ will have us believe that without their regular updates, the software will be vulnerable to attack... but it's Windows, it's vulnerable anyway... and i think my antivirus and firewall software keeps my machine more secure than Microsoft's updates do.

I've read on some of the geeky forums that there's people out there that never get M$ updates and have had no issues, presumable because their XP machines are behind a decent firewall and have anti virus protection.

I'm going to leave XP on for two reasons... firstly, to see what happens, and secondly, because i can't afford to upgrade just yet.

so is it just me... or is anyone else brave enough? That's if anyone else is still using XP

For home use I've not used a windows os since win95, my work laptop has 7 and I've found it to be very stable, we have a few xp builds around in the office and those too seem reliable, we need to keep them to support the customers that will continue to use it as you will.

I use it still and am still not sure what to do - conflicting advice out there but what I did do was completely empty all the histories on the various browsers I use as there have been financial transactions in the past - even then I`ve been told that any hacker would also have to hack into say ur bank too but I`m not sure about that one.

So, I probably will use it altho I may try to get a different fire-wall from the standard Windows one (if u can do such a thing). In future, any sites that I visit which could put me at risk of identity theft etc will be done on main PC if I can wrestle it from the kids!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I use a program that runs under win OS only , i have tried it under wine emulation on linux and it was too slow to be useable and i would need to run a full install to upgrade .
Might as well wait till my pc dies and then get a new one with the latest OS as it is getting on a bit .

there's plenty of firewalls available... I used to use Zone Alarm, now use Commodo (both free)... I've never relied solely on the windows firewall.

Can let you have a copy on floppy disk if you want!

Still use it and due to non supported printers, will continue to use it.
I find it odd that many of the major manufacturers don't provide drivers for the newer operating systems.
