Winter bike has arrived, can now put my precious road bike away for a couple of months and try to avoid the pot holes etc whilst on my travels.

Yes, and I expect you have a lot of potholes around south Somerset. At least you can see the cars through the hedges this time of year.

Me thinks either the potholes only come out for a couple of months a year or the road bike isn't able to avoid them.

Harder to avoid on my road bike due to the high speed i travel (..
) and the evenings get darker 
But i do think some only come out in winter, then hide away again through the year!
