I have come back to commuting by bike after a 12 month break. I commute 9 miles each way 5 days a week snd also get out as often as possible at weekends for longer rides. I ride either a Trek 1.2 or on dry and longer days Madone 4.5.

I am looking to update my kit for autumn/winter as the weather has started to turn wetter and a bit colder. Please can I have peoples opinions/experiences with kit to help me make sensible purchases.
I realise that there may be a fair bit of subjectivity but it would be useful as you often find out those little foibles with kit when actually using them.

Proposed Kit list:
Long Sleeved Jersey (Maybe with a degree of waterproofness)
Long Legged Bib Tights (Maybe with a degree of waterproofness)
Waterproof jacket
Overshoes
Long fingered gloves

I have been considering the Sportful No-Rain Jacket and Bib tights and am going to look at an Altura Night Vision Evo Jacket.

Thanks.

Cycling buffs are versatile items.
You can wear them on your neck/ears/nose/mouth/head for warmth.

See the Aldi thread - get down there tomorrow and buy some stuff. Buy the Mirror too and get a fiver off.

Altura Night Vision Evo jacket is probably the best ever winter jacket you will ever buy. But be warned, their sizing does come up large.

If you're commuting 5 days then, because of cleanliness, you're going to need a few pairs of garments that touch your skin. Bib tights, yes, but potentially get ones without padding and buy (cheaper) padded shorts to go underneath.

Maz - Thanks I have been using Buffs for a variety of uses and love them.
400bhp - I will be heading down there as I have had a few bits from them before. Cleanliness not an issue as I was planning to get a couple of sets of stuff and wash/rotate and have showers at work.
Ian - Great to hear as I have heard good things about them. Think I will be getting one.
Gaz- Thanks I will heed your advice.
Any futrther specific product suggestions VERY welcome

Endura MT500 over shoes are good.

Endura MT500 over shoes are good.

From experience, do not walk in them. As soon as you get off the bike, remove them. Mine lasted the whole of 2 weeks before they started to fray on the bottom.

I've bought some Northwave boots to wear in the winter and have worn them for the last 3 days-each ride being in the rain. Very very impressed with them.

Sportful make a No-Rain pant... very good if you can find one. had mine for about a year (purchased from wiggle) as for overshoes i wouldn't bother, i have never found any that work like they should after trying many brands i junked them all and went for a pair of Sidi Diablo gore tex boots... fantastic product. used last winter even in the snow. everything was cold except my toes
