For some reason I was expecting it to be cold today because the flat felt chilly last night for the first time since March/April, and it wasn't feeling much warmer this morning.

Wore my usual bib shorts & CC short-sleeved top, but put on long-fingered gloves and arm-warmers. Needn't have bothered. I was roasting as it wasn't cold at all outside!

Maybe I should've checked the outside temp from the external sensor this morning before I left. Oops!

What do you guys do about keeping your feet/toes warm when it gets cold and wet?

I just use my mountaineering socks... but you do need to make sure that the shoes/boots are large enough for a second pair when it gets colder. (I can't use clips because of a disability, so simply cycle in lightweight waterproof hiking boots with toe straps instead - some people hate them, but for me it is the only option)

Socks & shoes

Seriously though - I just wear a pair of neoprene overshoes; they've been more than enough for me (bearing in mind that I do naturally run hot anyway so don't feel the cold as much as others once I've cycled the first mile).

Overshoes here too. Manage with simple windproof ones (Aldi) in the dry, but have some awesome BBB Hardware Waterproof ones that are neoprene and have a PU waterproof outer - fab. Water can get in the top if it's hammering down, so I use over trousers in those occasions.

In last winter's snow (-15c) , I went out with full winter kit under waterproof trousers and top...... you could soon tell if the front of the overshoe had flipped up......toes started to freeze............ (front flipped up as I had a couple of sections (like crossing a main road) where I had to walk the bike in a foot of snow......)...........

I'm a fairly 'hot' person, and don't suffer cold in the extremes like some folk do.

Commute right through the winter here. Thankfully my commute's only a few miles each way , but come snow, ice, rain or fog..i'll be there. (apart from maybe very heavy rain  .

Last years highlight was cycling in in heavy snow...i looked like a snowman. Slow hard slippery work, cycling glasses needed wipers.

I suffer horribly from the cold mind...absolutely hate the cold and my feet and hands freeze quickly. Never have found an answer yet, despite all sorts of glove combinations. Going to try some arm warmers this winter, see if that makes any difference. Perhaps i just need to spend some serious money on gloves.

Have you tried Altura Night Visions?

These are seriously warm. I can't wear them if the temp is anything above Zero as get too hot

I find them to be warm-ish. Through a lot of last winter I had to wear silk undergloves as well to keep my hands warm. Maybe I cycle faster.....;)

Northwave Celsius goretex boots. I ride MTB through the winter and they do that pretty well. Commuter has the same pedals so I use the boots for both. Choice is that or a pair of Tahos and waterproof Sealskinz socks.

The latest Aldi winter softshell will be my frosty morning choice. It is badged up as waterproof and windproof, but as it hasn't really been that cold yet it's still in the cupboard.

Much chillier heree this morning - around 6 degrees out so the long-fingered gloves and arm-warmers made a re-appearance.

Still wore my bib-shorts though - not cold enough to wear the longs yet. The moving parts don't get as cold as the non-moving arms and fingers!

IME, the best way to keep your feet warm is not to get them wet in the first place. Good overshoes are my tip. What you wear under them is almost irrelevant (almost...).

Anyway, it will be December before I have to get my studded-tired beast out. I'm still in shorts, track mitts etc. here. Nice long autumn in Ontario - followed by mighty harsh winter of course, but that's absolutely fine if you're prepared for it.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
First fully pitch black commute home for me this morning after night shift.

Coming home on unlit back roads with a nasty cross wind certainly made me making a list of why i enjoy cycling

I too commute all year round on a bike, even though I came off early in the year and broke my elbow, (icy road).
In really cold weather I use overshoes and "lobster-claw" mitts, which are the warmest thing I have found for my digits.
I have some "ear mitts" which are fleecy and which fit snugly over the ears if held in place with a ski band or a skull cap.
I have tried helmets but can't get on with them at any price, so I don't wear one.

1st 7am start for months yesterday, forgot how quiet the roads were at 6am and how dark and chilly it also is at this time of year.
