Thanks for the suggestions chaps. In the end I went for a pair of Pearl Izumi Pittards Elite Thermal Winter Gloves.

I liked the fact they looked pretty sleek and weren't too bulky! Will post what I thought of them when they arrive.

Right, well I've had a chance to try them in the dry and they're brilliant. Nice tight, comfortable fit, totally wind proof, and great grip. Highly recommended!

I was trying on some gloves in Evans today. XXXL and still too damn small. That's the downside of having everything made in the Far East.

Went out yesterday and did a quick 20 miler in between working from home on some web design ( just had to escape for a bit, it was doing my head in :becool: ).

Decided to try out for the first time, the "el-cheapo" winter gloves I got from Aldi a few weeks ago.

Nice and toasty, not a bad fit but the so called "gel padding" on the palms?. Very little of it and they were not exactly the most comfortable thing I've used.

Not bad for the price, not great either.

Got to say, the seal skins I bought from Crackle are toasty as anything, although a bit bulky when you've got flats plus bar ends. Would def recommend for warmth though.

I'm just breaking in a pair of Endura Stike winter gloves and they are not too buly, very windproof, comfortable and warm.

See Here.

I have yet to get them seriously wet tho and from the reviews I have since read they might not be as waterproof as I desired.
We shall have to see..........

Last year I used a couple of pairs of cheap thinsulate gloves. One pair was £2.50 I think and the other £1.00. They weren't waterproof but they did stop my fingers freezing. The £1 pair didn't last long though and the £2.50 were fine until I came off my bike in March which tore up the palms a bit. Still got them somewhere though.

I might try something a little bit more up-market this time though.

PrettyboyTim is right on the money. Thinsulate wooly gloves from Wilkinsons or any thrift store.
I've been using them for years. £1.99 per pair and they last a good time too.
If it really gets cold - the Thinsulate lining out of a wooly hat, cut into two is wrapped around toes before pulling socks on.

My approach is similar, I bought some "Campri" ski-gloves from Chavsports for about £2. Toastier than hell even in very coldest weather. I also have a pair of cheap thinsulate gloves for intermediate days.

Altura Night Visions here for very cold days - or just long fingered gloves at the moment

+1

Not sure how I'd cope with the Night Visions on the road bike, as the fingers are a bit bulky so I might have problems with the gear changes. They were fine for the MTB through last winter though - and tbh I'll probably be moving back onto that for the worst of the winter anyway.
