£25 ski gloves from Mountain Warehouse. Skiers know about coldness and wet.
Yeah but manufactures will call any quilted glove a 'ski' glove. I've had numerous pairs of 'ski' gloves over the years that have been utter crap.

So far my best combo is cheap woolly 'magic' gloves, thin silk liners on top of those and a decent pair of fleece thermal gloves on top of those.
The downside is I can't find my silk liners anywhere and I can't get the fleece gloves over the woolly gloves without them.

The obvious point being that cycling gloves require a lot more flexibility that ski gloves and thus negate a decent amount of insulation layer.

On the whole, I suspect professional cyclists will not have the blood flow of use mere mortals and thus be more resilient.

Glad you said 'professional' as that definitely counts me out - !

I recall the other winter, my warm gloves were just becoming uncomfortable. I then pass a father and son on basic bikes chatting away, both with no gloves. Just maybe they were pretending to be hard.

Some years ago whilst cycling to one of my jobs, I would sometimes pass another cylist who by his garb, was obviously a painter / decorator.
Even in the depths of winter, I never saw him wearing gloves - !

The by far most important is that they're big enough to put on without any pulling.
Because hands swell when cold / wet, and, when pressing on skin, make blood flow harder, which in turn has other nasty consequences that worsen it.
It does less harm without gloves than with gloves that are too small.
