I used to visit Montreal regularly on a ship. Ice-breaking up the St. Lawrence to get there, even had the pilot walk out to the ship across the ice once.
Proper winters, even though it's as far south as Barcelona.

Walking on the ice is something I did during my first winter here. Incredible experience TBH. Ice is a lot thinner this year though, since it's a warmer winter. Someone in Ontario parked their truck on the ice, only to have it fall in the next day!

Colder than here then. Where i live the absolute coldest this winter has been -20C. Like you @jhawk i love the cold, crispy days with blue skies. Beautiful. Do you ski cross-country? I used to be really into it a few years back. It's a great way to get about in nature. Haven't been on skis yet this winter, but next week we are off into the hills !!!

We had the biggest snowfall in a single day for more than a decade yesterday... I think we have something around 18" of snow from virtually nothing.

I don't ski, never mind cross-country! :O I tried skiing once, but fell spectacularly on my arse for an hour.

It's warm and melting over here.

It threatened to earlier, but now the temperature has dropped again, and it looks like being cold and clear for the next few days. And then we've got a lot more snow forecast. Hopefully we can finish the roof insulation installed on our house build before that....
