Winter Olympics

Given the weather conditions in the UK I was checking when the next Winter Olympics take place and discovered that they are coming up in February in Vancouver.

So given that, what is everyones favourite event in the Winter Olympics and what event would you like to see included?

My current favourite event is ski jumping. Find it fascinating that these little people are prepared to hurl themselves off the side of a mountain. I once went to the Olympic ski jumping site in Innsbruck and could not believe how small the arena was.

I think I would like to see snow ball fights included in the Games.

Good shout on the snowball fights. I reckon it could be a co-event with the carrying shopping bags on black ice. Competitors work across the route in diagonals so that the shoppers act as obstacles to the throwers and the throwers add to the peril of the shoppers...

Of the current events - I like a surprising large number of the winter events, given I have never participated in a winter sport.

I went to Turin to see some of the Ice Hockey at the last Winter Olympics. Awesome. I was there for 3 days and saw most of the top teams, Canada, USA, Russia, Czech Republic. I didn't bother with any of the other sports. I would have gone to some of the skiing but it was some distance from Turin.

We were in Lake Placid in July and visited all the venues used in the two Winter Olympics held there. Very interesting.

Ironman Lake Placid was on while we were there. That was just an incredible experience and has made want to do one of these! Aiming for a half next summer and then maybe a full the following summer.

With the next games being in Vancouver Ice Hockey will be one of the biggest events as it's the national sport in Canada. Would love to be going over for this but I'll just have to rely on Sky Sports.

the figure skating always amazes me. and the girls aren't bad too look at either (and so flexible!)
