Hi,

Having recently read / heard some horror stories about riding a carbon bike through the winter and even though i clean my bike after every ride I am looking into the possibility of a winter bike..

I wouldnt really want to spend any more than £300 on something that's used.

I have no brand preference my only limitation is the size - as i am only 5"6 i may be limited on what is available.

I have been looking on eBay but thought i would ask here.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, what horror stories have you heard?

You genuinely shouldn't worry about the frame material and the season of use.

Hi - Thanks for the response. I have read a couple on here but i should have mentioned that its the components as well as the frame people have warned me against.

I have thought that its a bike at the end of the day and they are designed to be ridden - i havent yet upgraded the wheels i shall do that in the new year when the weather starts to get a bit better.

If i am worrying about nothing i'd rather put the £300 to a set of wheels in the new year..

also, if anyone can reccomend some good carbon safe cleaning products (i have some muc off from a lidl sale) and how best to maintain the components i'd rather do that once a week than listen to the wife moan at another bike :-)

Dan,before you spend your money ask the mods to move your thread to general cycling. You'll hopefully get more responses to your questions.

All frames are generally finished in the same way - ie with a layer of paint and/or clear coat. The material underneath, whether it is carbon fibre, steel or aluminium, really doesn't matter.

I am a serial bike abuser! I rarely clean a bike. I have a carbon bike that I will ride in any weather/conditions. Do I look worried?

I'm not sure - do you?

I would think the biggest problem is maybe bad weather making it more likely to come off if you don't adjust your riding and maybe Alu or steel would take a fall better than carbon????
