Winter Tyres - 23 or 25?

Time to put on some winter tyres for my commute. Having researched it, I think I will go for Micheln Krylions. I'm slightly concerned about the lack of grip in the wet, but I also don't want to compromise too much in terms of weight / speed.

I currently run Continental Grand Prix 700x24c and I'm wondering whether I should go for the Krylions in 700x23c or 200x25c - it's only a marginal difference, but I can't decide which to go for.

The 25's will be more comfortable and have a better grip, I assume, but I guess they will be heavier and slower than the 23's.

Anyone else have any experience of the Krylions and can anyone offer any advice which size to go for?

25c will be minimally heavier than 23s. It's not like you're doing from 23s to 38s or something extreme like that.

As for that specific tyre, not used them so no idea although I would run 25s simply for the comfort.

I'm now running 25c continental 4000s and they are pretty reasonable, help with comfort a great deal on my Venge.

Got to admit i am a little concerned regarding grip on icy mornings.....not meaning to hijack the thread. I'm running 23mm Kysirion slicks.

treaded tyres will make no difference on ice. You need spikes.
And yes, I run slicks all year round.

it had been said to me before regarding treads versus slicks. Most of my commute is on major roads.....however there is proportion on back roads and seeing as i started riding again last April i have still yet to ride out in the ice on a road bike with slicks.......guess i will have to see how i go.......the last time i rode in the ice was over twenty years ago....Hyde Park Strand and it was snowing.....came off on black ice........and slid across the road.........and that was on a mountain bike.

No need for winter tyres other than ice and snow ones. I run the same tyres all year, ice and snow its studded tyres on my MTB.

28's. the '25' GP 4 season is actually more 25 than 28 anyway. People are so hung up on width. It does my nut in.. Sure, think about the tiny weight differences, but wider will deform less and has been shown to have a lower rolling resistance.

28mm for me too year round. I don't change tyres for winter but I run tyres more aimed at winter training than light summer tyres. The Krylions, if you can get them, are great tyres, I've a pair on my weekend bike but I consider them a luxury for the commute. Vittoria Randonneur for me at the moment, though the Bontrager Hardcase I ran before served me well.

You will not notice any difference between 23's and 25's.
