I've now got a new but unsecured wireless connection using my replaced hard drive. I can't remember how to set up the WEP,WAP or WOP doodah.

Just use one of the encryption techniques and if your router supports it back it with MAC filter list and set number of max connections. This is ample as anyone breeching this will get in if they are that determined; they are welcome to waste the time.

Try to use WAP2 - the most secure encryption technique at the moment. A MAC filter is also ok but only as an additional measure.

set up the routermodem and then try and connect to the wireless signal from Windows. you will be prompted for pass key etc. Job Done.

I looked at My Computer-Windows but I can't see a link for IE there. I'm sorry if this is a bit basic but I need words of one syllable!

Ok. I've opened the 'Network and Sharing' from the Control Panel and under Netgear Connection there's a Security panel with some options.

At the moment it says 'Open' and one of the options on the drop down box is
WPA2-Personal which sounds right.
Selecting that gives me an encription option between AES and TKIP. Which?

It also brings up a box to put in a Network Security Key - Where would I find that?
Cheers
