Witnessed a SMIDSY tonight..

Guy parked on double yellows, cop on a mtb in front of me, car door opens and catches the handlebar of his bike and sends him flying into the middle of the road.
Driver very apologetic not surprisingly when he saw the POLICE Hi-Viz jacket that the rider was wearing, pity he didn't look before opening his door
Copper let him go without reporting him which I was quite surprised about, offered to be a witness but he said he wasn't hurt as he had body armour on and the bike belonged to the police.

Driver very lucky imo.

I have met several instructors who claim they have taught Bikeability to the police, but I have yet to see a PC who rides as though he as been trained accordingly.

Don't know about the points but agree he was very lucky, maybe the cop had just finished his shift and wanted to get home.
What happens when he turns up for work with a slightly damaged bike though?

The guy even said 'I shouldn't be parked here really'

I have never seen a good Police cyclist on the road. Do they exist?

Tell I lie, a CC member who I know and is a fuzz is a great cyclist, however I haven't seen him in uniform on a fuzz bike, where I can imagine he's just like the rest.

I'm sure the driver has learnt a very important lesson.
The police don't mind me parking on double yellow lines and it's not much bother to hit a cyclist. Yay.

the police on campus (Loughborough uni) seem to be pretty decent - I managed to hit one doing &*%mph - at about 45 degrees, I looped over the handlebars, landed heavily in the bush/verge and somehow she kept upright! - I luckily just escaped with a verbal warning( claimed to be a fresher and didn't know the road) to told to obey the 15mph campus speed limit in the future.

Sounds more like a police wannabe than a copper. High viz and big letters do not a real copper make!
